I saw this little image and fell in love with the soft pink wall, the mug of roses, the old rocking chair and the even older antique encaustic tiled floor. They set the scene of a time in history where there were homes that were run down but full of character. The encaustic tiles in this image bring warmth and colours into the space and create a sense of calm within the pattern. This image was found in a small home in Cuba. Many Cuban homes in the early 20th century were decorated with hydraulic tiles. They can still be found today in many of the original old buildings-their age giving them more soul.

For me,this is another perfect example of the power of encaustic tiles when it comes to impact and warmth. This beautiful old Puerto Rican home holds the charm from yesteryear. The grand high ceilings and the open verandah together with the encaustic tiles set the scene of elegance and grandeur. There is a stunning sheen to the tiles which would have been created with a floor wax. This is the traditional finish for antique encaustic tiles. It protects the floor and brightens the colours.A rug of encaustic tiles on any verandah would immediately give it a sense of warmth-as rugs do.

I love seeing a space transform when you add a little bit of life and pattern into it.This kitchen is a perfect example of how just 2 sq metres of a simple and lovely design can change the look and lift a space so positively. The splashback has now become the focal point in this kitchen and created warmth and character to this central part of the house.I am sure the rest of the home is full of gorgeous surprises.I know that if you check out Sally's www.littleelk.com.au  you will find the cutest Bergstein gumboots for children-they are European, stylish and colourful.Sally sources exclusive handpicked goods from around the globe.

Keep an eye on my gallery page as the Moorish Night tiles will soon be available in other colours.
