The Grounds includes a  restaurant, cafe, bar, garden, bakery, patisserie, coffee roasters, animal farm and florist, it also hosts weekly markets, events and workshops. This is an ever-evolving space and one that is oh so incredibly beautiful to top it all off, Caroline Choker the designer has done the most amazing job transforming this 1920’s heritage industries site.

I was thrilled to arrive and walk into the pumping weekend hustle and bustle. The weekly market was in full swing, laden with visitors exploring the abundant local produce, makers and innovative creators. Catching glimpses of my treasured tiles existing so beautifully within this vibrant inner-city hub was the biggest joy it is safe to say they are most definitely living their very best life.

The grounds project has incorporated several different Jatana tiles within its interior and exterior including our Royal and Cuban encaustic tile designs that sit oh so perfectly in a little outdoor private atrium, evoking all those chic rustic french vibes, this is a fabulous idea to copy at home! This encaustic tile design has also been used to pave the way through the ever so sweet farmyard, where the infamous Kevin Bacon the pig lives a pretty lush inner-city existence in a pen surrounded by vintage tiles and adoring fans!

This project also saw the use of our encaustic tiles to create tiled table tops, these compliment the restaurant’s seasonal produce and delicious fare to perfection.  This ever-evolving space is also home to the most dreamy of florists @thegroundsfloralsbysilva who has chosen to use one of our stunning vintage tiles within her bloom laden store. Such integrity and honour to the heart soul of this heritage building can be found in this pairing of vintage tiles and the old industrial bones of the site.

The Grounds really are a most unique, exciting and innovative approach to creating community and encouraging an environmental connection within the urban environment. What an incredible project to be part of and a heavenly home for many of my beloved encaustic and vintage Jatana tiles. If you are ever in Sydney and have a few hours to spare I cannot recommend checking out this amazing, inspiring space.
