So, you’ve tiled your chosen area, be it the bathroom, entrance, kitchen or myriad of other tileable spaces, and now it’s time to focus on the next part of the journey… tile maintenance!

All Jatana Tiles are durable, hardwearing and easy to keep in beautiful condition forever if you follow some easy steps. We’ve put together a little bit of a cheat sheet to tile TLC but please never hesitate to reach out to the Jatana team for more info on tile maintenance if you need.

Routine clean

Sweep away at all the dirt and debris with a vacuum or broom. Dilute your chosen neutral ph cleaner in warm water and apply to the tiles with a mop. The regular use of any abrasive cleaners, bleaches and cleaning agents which are excessively acidic or alkaline could cause irreversible damage to the tile surface and pigment and should not be used.

Choose the right floor mop

Clean tile with mild detergent and clean water using a rag or chamois mop rather than a sponge mop. These mops are best for cleaning tile because sponge mops tend to push dirty water into the grout lines, making them harder to clean. Be sure to change the water frequently while mopping; dirty water equals a cloudy floor tile!

Manual cleaning

You can do a manual, deep clean to your Jatana tiles with warm water to which a ph neutral detergent has been added; a gentle wipe over with a soft damp cloth or scrub with a soft-bristled scrubbing brush is perfect for removing debris, mould and built-up grime. Manual cleaning is also a fantastic way of maintaining grout cleanliness; a toothbrush is perfect for getting into all those nooks and crannies for an extra deep clean.

Periodic cleaning

Occasionally your tiles may come into contact with foreign matter that can’t get removed with your regular light cleaning methods. It’s advised to try the following recommendations on a small area first.

Organic stains: This includes things like food, beverages, cosmetics, blood and plant matter: Soft Microfibre cloth with warm soapy ph neutral household cleaner.

Oil-based: Household detergent mixed in warm water and cleaned using a microfibre cloth.

Naturally occurring substances: For mould growth, mildew and fungus, use a household ph neutral cleaner and plenty of elbow grease.

Tea, coffee and ink: Household general cleaner works well

Drytreat has many products for specific stains for cleaning harsh stains, e.g., oils, rust, dirt, wine, etc. Oxy Klenza is an excellent Drytreat product that we use in the showroom and it’s available online through stain proof distributors.
