Tiles are low maintenance products. They are hard-wearing, eco-friendly and do not dent or stain as easily as other flooring materials. They look beautiful once laid and are easy to maintain. Although dirt and grime can accumulate over time, some simple protection measures and regular light cleaning will keep your tiles looking as good as new. We’ve put together our top tips for keeping your tiles in amazing condition forever.

HANDY TIPS

Protect floor tiles by using felt gliders or protective cups under furniture to prevent scratching.

Doormats are your friends! Sand and grit can dull the glazed surface of tiles over time. Doormats are a must-have for any entrance to catch dirt and grit before it makes a way into your home. Ensure you also provide a mat by pet entrances.

Although tiles are hard-wearing, clean them regularly to maintain their beautiful appearance.

When you first buy tiles it’s important to keep a few spare for repairs, just in case of any unforeseen damage. If you are planning to tile additional areas with the same tiles in the future, order them all at the same time to ensure consistency of shade as tiles vary slightly between batches.

ROUTINE CLEAN

Sweep away at all the dirt and debris with a vacuum or broom. Dilute your chosen neutral ph cleaner in warm water and apply to the tiles with a mop. The regular use of any abrasive cleaners, bleaches and cleaning agents which are excessively acidic or alkaline could cause irreversible damage to the tile surface and pigment and should not be used.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT MOP

Clean tile with mild detergent and clean water using a rag or chamois mop rather than a sponge mop. These mops are best for cleaning tile because sponge mops tend to push dirty water into the grout lines, making them harder to clean. Be sure to change the water frequently while mopping; dirty water equals a cloudy floor tile!

MANUAL CLEANING

You can do a manual, deep clean to your Jatana tiles with warm water to which a ph neutral detergent has been added; a gentle wipe over with a soft damp cloth or scrub with a soft-bristled scrubbing brush is perfect for removing debris, mould and built-up grime. Manual cleaning is also a fantastic way of maintaining grout cleanliness; a toothbrush is perfect for getting into all those nooks and crannies for an extra deep clean.
